Inveterate cigarmaker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo has been in the business nearly 50 years. He’s made cigars in a small factory in Miami’s Little Havana to a giant factory in the Dominican Republic during his tenure with General Cigar. Now, he operates his own La Alianza factory. What he has is complete control, and that affords him the luxury of making almost any kind of cigar he wants.
When he wanted to make a maduro cigar, he didn’t turn to Mexico or Brazil, but rather looked to the U.S. for Connecticut broadleaf. This cigar shows all the ripe tobacco notes of a quintessential maduro, bolstered by a blend of Nicaraguan tobacco that offers a chocolatey, nutty smoke with a warm core of wood.
E.P. Carrillo is the signature brand of EPC Cigar Co., the Dominican cigar company owned and operated by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. Known as the “Godfather of Boutique Cigars,” Perez-Carrillo’s brand received early acclaim with its Elencos Edición Limitada and Short Run cigars, and has continued to impress with brand extensions like E.P. Carrillo La Historia and E.P. Carrillo Selección Oscuro. E.P. Carrillo cigars are made at Perez-Carrillo’s Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. factory in the Dominican Republic.
